Truskavetsis famous for its mineral springs, which have made it one of Ukraine's great resorts. The most famous among them is the sulfur-scented, slightly saline 'Naftusia” - widely known for its medicinal effect in case of gastric and other internal diseases.
The town lies in an attractive little valley in the Carpathian foothillsat an altitude of 400 meters, on the slopes of the mountains with mixed forests, i.e. spruce, oak, beech, fir, etc. and is easily reached from Lviv by bus or train.
The first written mention of Truskavets refers to 1469. The origin of the name “Truskavets” is not known. Some believe that it is a modified form of the Polish word “truskawka” - strawberry. Others think that name of the town was affected by Lithuanian language: Lithuanian “druska” means “salt”, and the Carpathian region is known as the center of salt production.
Since the XIXth century Truskavets is well known for its mineral springs and numerous rehabilitation centers.
Since 1892 it isthe health center of European importance, and a great amount of hotels, villas and guest houses were built.
